KC fix of the Day!!!
I think that Todd thinks this dog is human (she thinks she is sometimes too). In this shot they are engrossed in an intellectual conversation that went something like this:
Todd: "You wanna go in the car?" "Wanna?"
KC: [blank stare, tail wagging]
Todd: "C'mon, wanna go in the car, wanna go for a ride?"
KC: [blank stare, tail wagging, tail hitting Cate in the face]
Todd: "Answer me damnit! Do you want to go for a ride or not?"
to Cate "I think KC might not be human! Oh no what am I going to do?"
Cate: "She's a dog, please get her butt out of my face"

I know this is a photo of KC and should be the KC fix but it's not so deal with it.
KC has been in a funk all week - as you may have already known from my KC picture descriptions. As soon as Todd walked in the door it was like a switch had flipped. She's all happy and nice. She did actually miss me today when I was gone and went nuts when I got home. She does this funny thing where it looks like she is growling at you and about to bite your head off then spit it out and play soccer with it (oh, and in case that last part grossed you out I took an anthropology/archaiology class about ancient Mexico and that is what one of the more violent tribes would use for a soccer ball) but what she really is doing is SMILING at you! Yes, my dog smiles. It is a hard phenomenon to photograph but those of you that know her can back me up. It was all glorious fun until she smelled another dog on me. Man, did that ever piss her off. She stopped wagging her tail at me, turned away from me so that all I saw was butt, and then went and sat in Todd's lap acting all wounded and stuff. It took her a good 5 mintues to come back around. Oh yeah, this was a post about how much she loves Todd. She won't leave his side. In fact she is taking a nap with him right now.

Helping with the Laundry Day 13
I will blog about this later - I'm running late to pick up Todd. Always freakin running late. I want sushi tonight so i can't be late or the restaurant will close! Ack!
Update to post: Sorry about the short start i really was running late. So in this photograph KC has jumped on the bed as I was folding the laundry. She stayed out of the way for the most part but eventually draped herself over my socks and pants in an effort to make them 90% cotton, 10% purebred Golden Retriever fur. Now, i'm actually anti fur but does it make you a bad person if it is your own dog's fur you are wearing. Okay, that sounds gross but you know what I mean. Is PETA going to come after me because KC shed on me and I didn't immediately get the lint roller out? Something to think about...

Photo of the Day!!!
I'm in a pretty bad mood right now. I have so much to do before I have to pick Todd up at the airport in a few hours. Why is it that I always leave the cleaning until the very last possible second (or in this case hours, but you get what i'm saying). It was 82 degrees in Austin today. It's cooling down and probably in the upper 60's right now.
I went outside with my camera and just sat on the front lawn. My neighbor came home and said something like "I have had a lot of beers, what are you doing?"
To try and explain that I am photographing single blades of grass for my blog would just take too long so i simply answered "taking pictures." He replied something about something - he lives across the street and his voice wasn't carrying well. I thought he was done talking but when i looked up a few seconds later he was staring at me as if waiting for a response. So i just said "yup, that's it exactly" He liked that response and waved as he walked inside.

January 22, 2009 Study of a Grapefruit before I ate it

I can't think of anything witty to say right now. I have all these thoughts floating around about miniature fruit, shrinking fruit, spending money, eating, etc and can't really make them make sense in words. About the shrinking miniature fruit though - I went grocery shopping today and the nectarines and limes were absurdly tiny. The limes were about the same diameter as a quarter and the nectarines were about the size of small plums. I am concerned about my fruits. Very concerned. Maybe that is why i can't be witty.
*No fruits were harmed in the taking of this photograph. Unless you consider cutting it to shreds and then stuffing it into my mouth afterward harm. Oh, and KC got a bite.
3 Minutes in the life of KC Day 12
KC fix of the Day!!!!
I took so many pictures of her because i was testing a setting on my camera. As I was testing Matt joined in the fun and got KC all sorts of worked up. What? Matt? I am not obsessed with Matt how dare you! He is my coworker and loves dogs so he ends up being in a lot of my photos lately. I take a lot of the KC pics at work. Anyway back to KC. She was just rolling around in the dead (excuse me dormant) grass getting all messy (the backseat of my car looks more like a lawn than upholstered seating). Along came Matt and Hunter and she got all sorts of excited to see them. Then Matt started chasing her and she pretended to get all mad and aggressive with him.
She really is the most gentle dog. In fact earlier today she was licking a baby! The baby enjoyed it and proceeded to climb on her like she was a jungle gym (do people still call it that?)

January 21, 2009 My closet

Why yes, the clothes in my closet are organized by color. Thank you for noticing.
So if you've read much of this blog you will know that I have obsessions and compulsions. I hate to say I have OCD because I have not been formally diagnosed. So lets just say I have IOCD (Informal Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). I have not always been this way. In college I'd be lucky if my clothes actually made it back on the hanger after laundry day.
The other thing is that i'm not necessarily using the Rainbow as my color template. I could have started with red and ended with purple BUT that would mean putting the red sweatshirts next to the green ones because I don't own any orange or yellow sweatshirtsweaters. That just isn't ever going to happen*. Sorry Rainbow you are &$%# out of luck.
* Interesting Cate fact of the Day: I hate it when red and green are next to each other.(clothes, food, dogs, pens, markers, crayons, post-it notes, post-it flags, flowers...) Unless it is Christmas I don't want to see it. It really bothers me.

Matt was very tired so he decided to take a nap on the floor of my office. KC thought that was a good idea (she's very pro nap time)(very). She curled up in his arm nook and just relaxed. Yes she relaxes with her legs up in the air sometimes. Such a lady.

KC fix of the Day!!!
So yeah, i left her outside. But wait! before you judge me read what I have to say. Feel free to judge at the end of the post.
KC is always on my heels whenever we are coming back inside. In fact she usually tries to squeeze past me to get in first. I never have to hold the door open for her. It's one of those doors that slowly closes and never slams. So today, i came back into the building as usual and started walking back to my office. Noticing the absence of a jingling collar I turned to look for KC. Um, not there. I walked back to the door and this is what I saw. So oops on me. But oops on her for not hustling.
Let the judging commence. Be kind please.

Matt and Cate walk into Cindy's office for a meeting. Matt sits down on the floor (no chairs left) and exclaims: "I'm wearing my argyle socks today!! Yippee." Cate then excitedly pulls up her pants (leg) to show that she too is wearing argyle socks. Seriously people what are the odds that Cate and Matt would both wear argyle socks on the same day? Answer: pretty f-ing good considering that Cate owns 4 pairs and washes socks frequently.

Black and White photo of the Day!!
I don't normally post my black and white photo of the day. Generally I find them boring as i put all of my time and energy into the photo of the day and the KC fix photo of the day. Same holds for this shot - I didn't spend any time composing or re shooting for exposure. Just photographed it and converted it in Photoshop. I ended up liking this one much much more than my photo of the day. These wind chimes hang inside my office. The only time i hear them chime is when Hunter shoots a rubber band at me that goes rogue. That's it. No funny comments. Sorry.

KC Fix of the day!!!!
KC was being a difficult subject today. She was very playful while we were in the backyard and very happy but everytime i turned the camera on her she would get all serious. So I let the camera fall to my side and started wrestling her in the backyard. She was winning. In fact in this photograph she is standing on my stomach with her 2 front feet. Shortly after this shot was taken she lunged at me and the playing continued.
She has been kind of mopey today. She misses Todd. It happens every time he leaves for a trip. This time we both left and only i came back. I'm not good enough for my dog. I had to force her to pay attention to me outside. Sigh. I guess i still love her though.

Photo of the Day!!!! (night!!!)
I'm not vain this way - I don't want people looking at pictures of me. That is why after i realized this was going to be the photo of the day I started to hide more behind the camera. That's what I do in real actual life anyway so why not shoot myself that way. Also, I'm already in my pajamas and snug hat so there was no way that shot was going to happen. Though, i have to thank my sister for introducing me to Aerie brand clothing. I just bought a sweet pair of lounge pants (read: sweatpants) and they are very comfy and stylish (and were on sale!). So back to the not vain picture of myself. It was shot while facing the mirror and using my cabled remote. The focus is on the lens of the camera in the upper to middle right area.
Oh, and that is not my ear sticking out in the upper left side of the photo, that is my awesome hair sticking out the side of the hat. Awesome hair*!
* Interesting Cate fact of the day: I hate my hair. I love the color (except those f-ing gray hairs that keep popping up on the left side of my head (yes only the left wtf?)) but i hate the way it just goes flat and looks straggly about 2 minutes after i brush it. It's probably my fault because I usually wash it and let it air dry after brushing. That doesn't mean i can't hate it though. I've been wearing a lot of hats lately.

Almost Photo of the Day!!!
I went into this shot thinking it would be my photo of the day. I worked at different angles, f/stops and exposure times hoping to get something useful. I have been having some trouble with my focusing lately and was really using this as an excuse to work on that. I do like the way the shot turned out as far as that goes. I used my macro lens and bulb exposure setting. I did play around with it in PS to get the higher contrast and shinier silver look (diffuse glow for anyone who wants to know).
Safety pins are now all over my floor because as i was moving about the room I dramatically knocked them to the ground. Dramatically. Okay, i was just clumsy but i was dramatically clumsy.
Anyway, the point of this non-photo of the day was that as i was getting ready to wrap up this sequence I looked up and into the mirror... And now may I present you with the true photo of the day (which will actually be above this posting so you will see it first, DAMNIT law of order and upload sequences!)

This was the view from the left side of my plane as we (we being the plane-full of strangers I was with) departed Salt Lake City International airport. It was staggering how beautiful it was. Just seeing this view made me want to go back to Utah on my own with just my camera, some cash, and warm clothing. Oh, and my tripod. And some compact flash cards. And probably some snacks.

Interesting Cate fact of the day: I am a level 3000 master at
taking the camera out of ski jacket pocket, taking a picture, and then putting the camera back into said pocket and zipping it back up while wearing gigantic ski gloves

I have several photos of my ski trip to post. I had such a great time skiing at Park City. The snow was so much different than in Colorado. Todd got really sick on our second and last day there. He was a trooper and did a couple of runs with me at the beginning of the day. He rested down below while i hit a few more runs. I decided that while i was alone I would try out some black runs. I feel like i hold Todd back sometimes so it was a good opportunity for me to challenge myself. I made it down all the black runs ( i think i did 5?) without falling. Now whether or not I looked good while doing so is another matter. I'm pretty sure I heard laughing when i "skied" under the chairlift...

Daily KC Fix!!! Late post from Sunday
I managed to squeeze this photo in at 11:57 pm on January 18. There was no photo of her for the 17th as I was in Utah and she was with my parents (thanks again Mom and Dad)
I know this is a horrible picture. She was so tired when I got home last night. She was happy to see me though. Usually she jumps all over me but tonight she just jumped once, smiled a lot and then sat between my legs and wouldn't budge until I had pet her for at least 5 minutes. In this picture she was impatiently waiting for me to go to bed. She won't sleep until I'm all settled. Poor pup!
